XFP Is A Hot-swappable Serial Optical Transceiver Oct 24, 2017

The XFP (10G Mini-Pluggable) optical module is the standard for fiber-optic high-speed networks and telecommunications links. Was defined by an industry group in 2002, XFP and its interface and other electrical component switches were called XFI. An XFP is combined by the transmitter and the receiver and shares the common circuit or the same enclosure.

The development of XFP

The XFP standard was developed by the XFP Multi-Source Protocol Group, XFP an industry group that does not have an officially accepted informal agreement. The Group developed its first preliminary specification on 27 March 2002 and was first made public on 19 July 2002, which was adopted on 3 March 2003 and then updated slightly on 31 August 2005.

XFP Features

1.XFP supports hot swapping, independent of protocol.

2. XFP The wavelength of the transmitted light is usually 850 nm, 1310 nm, or 1550 nm.

3. The main applications include 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10G Fiber Channel, XFP Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) OC-192, Synchronous Optical Network STM-64, XFP 10G Optical Transport Network (OTN) OTU-2 and Parallel Fiber Link.

4. They can work at a single wavelength or use dense wavelength division multiplexing.

5. They include the provision of digital diagnostic management that is added to the SFF-8472 standard.

6. XFP uses LC connectors to achieve high density.

The XFP rate is 10G and is a standardized package for serial optical transceivers. It fully complies with the following standards: 10G Fiber Channel, 10G Ethernet, SONET / OC-192 and SDH / STM-64.

XFP is mainly used for data transmission and fiber transmission network transmission

XFP is a hot-swappable, serial-serial optical transceiver with a small board area that supports SONET OC-192, 10 Gbps Ethernet, 10 Gbps Fiber Channel, and G.709 links.

XFP is a standardized package for serial 10G optical transceivers. It is independent of the protocol and is fully compliant with the following standards: 10G Ethernet, 10G Fiber Channel, XFP SONET / OC-192 and SDH / STM-64.

The XFP optical transceiver module is used for fiber-optic connections in data communications and telecommunications networks and has the advantage of having smaller pins than other 10G optical transponders (such as XENPAK, X2). The motherboard's electrical interface is a standardized 10G serial interface called XFI.
